This year has been tough for everyone, there’s no denying that.  During that time, especially in the beginning, we were taking up all sorts of hobbies and ways to pass the time until the world reopened again.  Everyone picked up a new skill or two, so why not make those work for you now and work for your bank account?  By taking your new hobby and turning it into a side hustle, you could have a few extra bucks to help with bills or have some fun money laying around.

Sewing and Knitting

Who didn’t love sitting in front of the TV binging the latest Netflix docuseries while they knitted a scarf?  Chances are you probably learned how to spin the yarn over the past year.  You could sell your knitted and sewn goods online to make a few extra dollars.  There is a market for everything from crocheted coffee cozies to pom pom hats.  Crocheting little cute animals or novelty cross stich has become all the rage.  Apply your needle skills and make some side money.

Cooking and Baking

Ah, the flour shortage of 2020.  A time when everyone was going to bake their own bread when the stores ran out.  Take those cooking and baking skills and make some extra cash with them.  You can bake birthday cakes and cookies for friends and others who will be more than happy to pay you for your work.  Word will get out about your bakes and pretty soon you’ll be the new local go-to birthday baker.

Photography

Whether it was taking pictures of your pets or going on nature hikes and photographing deserted scenery, chances are you learned a few new skills with your iPhone or other camera.  Offer your skills to friends for family portraits or to help document important events.  It might grow into a lucrative side business where you can be a wedding photographer on weekends while making bank.  If you love interacting with people and capturing moments, this could be the perfect new business venture for you.

Taking These Hobbies to the Next Level

Once you figure out your new side hustle and how it will work best for you, elevate your trade by investing in business cards or purchasing a domain name for a website.  There are many website builders that make it easy to get a website up and running in a matter of minutes.  You’ll look like the real deal without too much effort or cost.  Also look at online selling sites like BigCartel or Etsy which can make it super easy to open an online retail shop if you don’t know where to start.
